Gemotions

The afternoon sun cast long shadows as Ben walked back towards his apartment. His hands felt cold, even through his gloves. The card, clutched in his fist, felt like a lead weight. He'd been looking over his shoulder for weeks, ever since he saw the mysterious figure across the street.

He felt as though every shadow was watching him. He locked the deadbolt, double-checking the locks on the windows. He paced the length of his living room. His apartment felt like a cage.

The card revealed a photograph of his old childhood house, the one he had grown up in. Underneath, a handwritten message, in a childish scrawl, read: “Remember me?” He dropped the card.
